The purpose of processing your data

Camden Council will use your information to process your request for information about our properties for sale or for rent. Where you are a prospective tenant or leaseholder, your data will be used to arrange viewings with you, obtain feedback, and to arrange a contract of sale or a lease for you.

Our legal basis for processing your data

Data protection law requires every organisation to have a lawful basis for processing any personal information about an individual. Camden Council processes your personal data under a lawful ground known as ‘public task’. This means that the processing of your data is necessary for us to fulfil the request you have made to us e.g. when you ask for information about one of our properties.


Categories of Personal Data we may collect from you

The Personal Data we may collect from you includes your full name, postal address, email address and telephone number.


Organisations we may disclose your data to read...

There may be situations where it is necessary for us to disclose some of your data to other organisations. The types of organisations the Council will share data with are as follows:

  • Regulators (National Housing Federation, Quality Care Commissions etc.)
  • Organisations that we contract / partner with to provide services on our behalf to support our operations. This includes our sales agents, Savills (www.savills.com) and Jones Lang LaSalle (www.jll.co.uk).
  • We may make your personal data available to joint venture partners/other developers. This only applies to developments which are delivered as a joint venture partnership. Each organisation is a data controller in respect of the use it makes of this information.

We also undertake general data matching or data sharing in certain areas for the prevention or detection of crime. You can find out more information on that on the Council's website.

Transfer of data outside of the EU/EEA

We will not transfer your Personal Data outside the EU/EEA.


How long we keep your data

The length of time we will keep your personal information may be longer than the period for which we are providing services to you. We will retain your data for no more than 3 years after your interest in our properties ceases unless you contact us to request we delete it sooner.


Your Data Subject Rights

You have the right to request a copy of the information we hold about you, the right to ask us to rectify, erase or restrict processing of your data, the right to ask for data portability, the right to object to automated decision making, and if we are relying on consent the right to withdraw consent at any time. Your right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority

You can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office if you are unhappy with how the council has handled your personal data. It would be helpful if you contacted us first at dpa@camden.gov.uk to see if we can resolve the problem. Whether giving Personal Data is part of a statutory or contractual requirement or obligation

There’s no requirement or obligation for you to provide us with your information, but if you don’t then the Council can’t provide you with this service.


Automated Decision Making and Profiling

We do not use automated Decision Making or profiling to process your Personal Data


Mandatory information

None of the information you provide to us is mandatory, but Camden Council require your personal information to perform the services you have requested from us. For example, where you have asked for information about a property, we need to know your contact information so that we can update you with details of viewings, prices, and property availability.
